Delivering Against the Clock: How 24/7 Concrete Built Wakefield Trinity’s North Stand Ahead of Schedule

Executive Summary

Faced with a tight deadline and limited design documentation, 24/7 Concrete’s Civils Division successfully constructed Wakefield Trinity’s new North Stand. The project, which was due to run until May 2025, was completed by February, just in time for the start of the Betfred Super League season. Through expert coordination, resilient planning, and on-site innovation, the team delivered a complex build on time and to spec.

The Challenge

Wakefield Trinity’s promotion to the Betfred Super League created an urgent requirement: the construction of a new North Stand at their stadium before the 2025 season commenced. The build was originally projected to continue through to May, but stakeholders pushed for an earlier completion to coincide with the season launch in February.

This presented several key challenges:

  • An accelerated timeline with no margin for delay
  • Lack of complete structural drawings, requiring real-time adjustments
  • Logistical pressures due to winter weather and limited access
  • Previous attempts to fast-track similar work had failed due to poor planning or contractor availability. A new approach was needed, one that could adapt and deliver.

The Solution

24/7 Concrete’s Civils Division led the groundworks and concrete construction from November to February. The team began by setting up the site and deploying 8T and 3T excavators along with a hired-in dumper. The original stand was demolished, and 494 tonnes of muck removed to expose and level the ground.

A robust sub-base of 98.25 tonnes of type 1 aggregate was installed, followed by the pour of 300m³ of concrete using volumetric mixers and a 36m boom pump.

One of the final technical challenges; installing cast-in bolt boxes to support the new scoreboard, required high precision and coordination across teams.

Despite lacking detailed design drawings, 24/7 Concrete implemented dynamic on-site planning and collaborated closely with all stakeholders to keep the project on track.

The Results

Thanks to the determination, resourcefulness, and round-the-clock work ethic of the team, the new North Stand was completed a full three months ahead of schedule—without compromising quality or safety.

Quantitative Outcomes:

  • 300m³ of concrete delivered and placed
  • 494T of muck removed
  • Completed before the February 2025 deadline (originally scheduled to finish in May)

Qualitative Benefits:

  • Delivered a critical infrastructure upgrade for Wakefield Trinity on time for their Super League debut
  • Reinforced 24/7 Concrete’s reputation for reliability and problem-solving under pressure
  • Boosted team morale and client confidence through exceptional delivery in challenging conditions
