At 247 Concrete, we recently completed an exciting project on Ling Lane in Leeds, laying the
foundations for a new build bungalow. Here’s a quick look at how we did it.
Site Setup and Equipment:
Our team set up the site and moved our heavy-duty 14T and 8T excavators into position. We levelled
the ground to give the engineer a clear canvas to mark out the foundation layout.
Excavation and Muck Removal:
Following the engineer's layout, we excavated the foundations to the required dimensions. We
removed 802T of muck from the site using grab wagons, ensuring a clean and precise excavation.
Solid Base and Access Roads:
To ensure stability and accessibility, we used 60T of Type 1 aggregate to create a solid base for our
machinery and construct access roads into the site. This step was crucial for providing a stable base
for the concrete.
Pouring the Concrete:
Our concrete division then stepped in, supplying 227.25m³ of C30 strength concrete. Using
volumetric mixers and a 36m boom pump, we started pouring at 8:20 AM and finished at 6:15 PM.
This pour set a new record total for 247 Concrete, marking a significant achievement in our
company's history.

In Bradford, Yorkshire, we undertook an essential project at the new Wilsden Battery Storage Plant. This initiative involved supplying and pouring high-strength concrete to create durable bases for battery storage, ensuring the infrastructure meets industry standards.
Location: Bradford, Yorkshire
Concrete Strength: C25/30 to reach 30 newtons at 28 days
Equipment Used: 34m Boom Pump
Duration: 4 months
Total Concrete Poured: 574.25m³
We provided a C25/30 20mm aggregate mix, renowned for its strength and versatility in various construction applications. Over the four-month period, we executed pours ranging from 20m³ to 90m³, showcasing our capacity to handle both small and large-scale pours efficiently.
To ensure the quality and strength of the concrete, we conducted on-site cube testing in compliance with BS EN 12390-1:2000 standards. The testing process included the following steps:
Sampling: Concrete samples were taken directly from the pouring wagon.
Moulding: The samples were tamped into moulds after applying a mold release agent.
Storage: Cubes were initially stored in a dry place.
Curing: After 16-72 hours, the cubes were transferred to a curing tank.
Testing: Third-party testers collected and crushed the cubes at intervals (7, 14, 21, 28, and 56 days) using a calibrated compression machine to measure the concrete’s maximum strength.
The results demonstrated that the concrete achieved a strength of C25/30 newtons at 28 days, meeting the project’s specifications.
This project in Bradford was part of a broader initiative, with similar battery storage sites completed in York, Halifax, and Barnsley. Each site required meticulous planning and execution to ensure the concrete bases met the necessary standards for battery storage infrastructure.

Concrete Specifications
We provided an RC28/35 20mm aggregate mix, specifically designed for reinforced concrete. This mix has a higher cement content meaning it is a long-lasting foundation for new build homes such as this project. As this was a large pour with a slight access issue, we used our 34m boom pump to pour and place the concrete into the footing.
Job Details
As this quantity was poured in one visit, we organised for the pump to be on-site to set up at 7.30am. We were then pouring the concrete by 8am. Boom pumps are specialised equipment that aid in getting concrete into hard to reach places by using a hydraulic overhead arms. The boom allows concrete to be delivered precisely to the desired location which sped up the job for this specific project due to access issues. Our NPOR’s trained operator controlled the boom’s movement, ensuring precise placement of concrete without spillage or waste. Fewer workers were needed to move and place the concrete manually saving the customer time and money.
This pour was completed, site cleaned, and the pump packed away by 1.30pm.
